I always thought matcha was my favourite green tea until I tried Hojicha. Hojicha is a roasted green tea and has a more smoky flavour compared to matcha. Try one of these three Hojicha Latte’s and I’m sure you’ll also fall in love with this tea.
How to Make Hojicha Tea with Hojicha Powder?
To make the Hojicha tea cook the water until the temperature is 80°C. Or cook and let the water cool for a couple minutes. Mix the water and the Hojicha powder. Add 1-2 tsp for each glass depending on how strong you like your hojicha tea. Whisk the Hojica powder to dissolve it in the water.
Add your sweetener of choice. I added approximately 1 tbsp of Maple Syrup. But you might like your drink to be sweeter of less sweet depending or your taste or the occasion.
Classic Hojicha Latte
For the classic Hojicha latte fill half of the glass with the Hojicha tea and the second half with frothed oat milk. If you wait a couple seconds you’ll see three layers appear in the glass. Or drink immediately.

Hojicha Bubble Tea
Cook the tapioca pearls according to the instructions on the package. Different brands often have different instructions. I like to use ready in 5 min tapioca pearls. When the tapioca is cooked and soft add brown sugar and melt the sugar on low heat. Scoop the tapioca and the melted sugar in a glass.

Hojicha Iced Latte
For the iced Hojicha latte it is important to let the hojicha tea cool before making the drink. If the tea is too hot the ice will melt. When the tea has cooled stat by filling the glass with ice. Next fill half of the glass with cold oat milk. Fill the other half of the glass with the cooled Hojicha tea. Pour the Hojicha tea slowly for a nice layer on top of the oat milk. And for the finishing touch add some whip cream on top. I used a soy whip cream.
