The BBQ tempeh sandwich is one of my favourite sandwiches. It’s super easy to make, healthy and full of flavour.
BBQ Tempeh
The BBQ tempeh is really easy to make. Just slice the tempeh. Bake the tempeh a few minutes on each side until the tempeh becomes a little brown. Add some bbq sauce on top. And it’s ready!
You can also make a batch of BBQ tempeh and store it in the fridge or freezer. This way you’ll always have BBQ tempeh when you feel like a BBQ tempeh sandwich.
Sandwich Toppings
For the toppings I’ve decided to add some mashed avocado, tomato and onion. These toppings give the sandwich a juicy bite and balanced flavour.


Ingredients
1 Tbsp olive oil
125g Tempeh
BBQ Sauce
1 Avocado
1/2 Tomato
A couple onion rings
3 slices of bread
Instructions
- Slice the tomato, tempeh and onion and mash the avocado
- Bake the tempeh golden brown with a little olive oil
- Coat the tempeh with bbq sauce and bake an extra minute on both sides
- Spread 1/2 the mashed tomato on one slice of bread. You can add some salt to the avocado if you like.
- Add half of the tempeh, tomato slices and onion (be careful not to add too much onion).
- Spread the mashed avocado on a second slice of bread and put the second slice of bread on the first slice
- Add the remaining tempeh, tomato and onion to the second slice of bread.
- Cover with the third slice of bread
